Folks in Clarkton now have a new restaurant in their midst.

The staff of “A Taste of Country” restaurant celebrated their grand opening on Friday. The business is owned by Charlotte Baldwin.

For the grand opening celebration, Baldwin held a raffle for a fryer, a griddle and slow cooker. There was also a 50/50 raffle and door prizes were also given away.

The menu at A Taste of Country will consist of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, French fries, Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, chicken cheesesteak sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, and a variety of lunch plates. Baldwin said she will also offer daily specials. She said the restaurant will also feature a line of homemade desserts every day.

“I cook and I came from New Jersey where my part-time job was catering,” said Baldwin.

She said her uncle encouraged her to relocate from New Jersey to Bladen County and she was looking for something to do. Baldwin said she was talking to Kentrina Woods at the Clarkton Town Hall and learned that Woods had a restaurant she would be willing to rent.

Baldwin said she prayed about the venture and then spoke with Woods again and agreed to lease the building.

“Now my hobby becomes my job,” said Baldwin with a smile.

“She has a passion for people and cooking,” said Earlene Stafford.

“I always give somebody something. Every day I give something away,” said Baldwin.

Folks entering the restaurant experienced a warm greeting and were immediately seated.

Baldwin also plans to offer a Thanksgiving meal for the town’s senior adults.

The restaurant is located at 10424 N. College Street in Clarkton. To place an order or reserve a table for a large group, call 910.647.0220.
