Bladenboro native Abbey Walters has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Softball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12.

Walters batted a sizzling .765 (13 hits in 17 at-bats) and walloped 3 home runs and 6 doubles in 6 games during the week. The senior righthander pitched her second career no-hitter against Barton.

The West Bladen grad knocked in 10 runs and scored 12 runs, while stealing 5 bases. During the week she had a slugging percentage of 1.647 and posted an on-base percentage of .762.  Against Queens Walters blasted 3 home runs.

Walters pitched 10.1 innings during the week and gave up 3 earned runs while striking out 12 and holding her opponents to a .179 batting average.

The versatile pitcher/centerfielder leads the Peach Belt Conference in runs (16), home runs (5), runs batted in (17) and is ranked in the league’s top five in batting average (.545), hits (18), total bases (39), doubles (6), stolen bases (8), on-base percentage (.590) and slugging percentage (1.182).

As a pitcher Walters ranks second in the PBC in wins (4) and shutouts (2), fifth in complete games (3), seventh in strikeouts (23) and earned run average (1.24) and eighth in innings pitched (28.1).

Walters was earlier named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week.  The Lady Braves will host Elizabeth City State Sunday in a double-header that starts at noon.
