Bladen County SportsAbbey Walters pitched Southeastern Community College to a double-header softball sweep over Wake Technical Community College Wednesday by scores of 8-0 and 12-2.

Walters and two other West Bladen grads, sophomore left-fielder Robin Coleman and sophomore catcher Kaitlyn Sykes, are all starting for Coach Karlyn Stephens’ Lady Rams.

In the first game, Walters fired a one-hit shutout, struck out 4 and walked none. The Bladenboro native slammed a triple and a single, drove in 2 runs and scored one.

Coleman belted a single and drove in 2 runs in the first game, and Sykes caught both games.

Walters knocked in 6 runs in the second game with 2 doubles and a home run. The sophomore right-hander pitched a 6-hitter and gave up 2 runs – none earned – and struck out five.   

Coleman batted a perfect 3-3 in Game 2, drove in a run and scored one.

Walters is second in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region X in batting with a .472 average. She is fourth in runs batted in with 18, sixth in home runs with 3 and second in Earned Run Average with a 0.65 ERA. Abbey has a .944 slugging percentage.

Coleman is batting .389 with a home run, 2 doubles and a .528 slugging percentage. Sykes has a .976 fielding percentage with 8 assists.

The Lady Rams improved to 4-6 overall with the sweep.
