LAURINBURG – West Bladen grad Abbey Walters blasted a home run and batted 4-8 to lead UNC-Pembroke to a double-header sweep of St Andrews Wednesday by scores of 8-7 and 13-1.

Walters started in the circle in the opener, pitched 4 innings and left with a 7-2 lead. The senior righthander raised her record to 8-1, struck out 3, walked one and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs.

At the plate Walters hammered a double to left-centerfield in the third inning and scored on Alex Watkins’ sacrifice bunt. Walters added an infield hit in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap Walters knocked in 2 runs with a double down the leftfield line in the third inning. In the fifth inning, the Bladenboro native walloped her sixth home run of the season over the leftfield fence.

The Lady Braves improved to 15-4 on the season and will host USC-Aiken in a double-header Saturday at 1 p.m. On Sunday UNC-Pembroke will entertain Lander in a double-header that starts at 1 p.m.
