Abby Ward Joins Lacey Suggs on UNC-Wilmington Basketball Team

WILMINGTON – Clarkton native Abby Ward has joined her high school teammate Lacey Suggs as a walk-on on the UNC-Wilmington basketball team.

Ward (pictured, above), a junior point guard, helped Suggs lead East Bladen to a 106-11 record in their four years with the Eagles. In her senior season at East Bladen, the 5-3 guard averaged 9.1 points and 6.6 assists per game. For her career, Ward totaled 730 points and 503 assists.

Suggs (pictured, left) has received preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association honorable mention for the 2019-2020 campaign. The 5-10 senior scored 10.3 points per game to earn Third Team All-CAA honors last season.

The White Lake native was fourth in the CAA in field goal percentage (.469) and 11th in steals with 46. Suggs was honored as the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 11 after a 29-point performance against Elon.

The Lady Seahawks will host Lenoir-Rhyne in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 26, before opening the season at Wake Forest on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
