Vulcanair’s new plant is expected to bring over 150 jobs to Bladen County

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (WECT) – An airplane manufacturing facility is on track to open in Elizabethtown later this year. In an announcement, Vulcanair Aircraft North America says this will be the first U.S.-based plant “dedicated to training aircraft production in more than 25 years.”
Chris Benaiges, CEO of Vulcanair Aircraft North America, says the Town of Elizabethtown was an invaluable partner in bringing the project to life.

“We’re excited to become part of a community committed to economic growth and proud to play a role in revitalizing U.S. training aircraft production,” said Benaiges.

Construction of the 40,000-square-foot plant began in January 2025 and the grand opening is planned for September 1.

“The plant will serve as the North American assembly site for the Vulcanair V1.0—a high-wing, cost-effective training aircraft currently produced in Naples, Italy—aimed at meeting growing demand from U.S. flight schools and aviation programs,“ Vulcanair explained.

Vulcanair Aircraft North America will be the anchor tenant of the town’s corporate airpark at the Curtis L. Brown Jr. Airfield. Once the plant is up and running, it could produce up to 100 aircraft per year.

Vulcanair says the new plant will bring high-quality manufacturing jobs to Bladen County that will put military veterans first. In the release, Vulcanair explains hiring will begin in late May for key leadership roles. They will then begin recruiting production staff in June.

“Approximately 40% of active-duty service members stay in the region after leaving the military,” said Ken Hadaway, COO of Sovereign Aerospace, Vulcanair’s project partner. “North Carolina’s exemption on military retirement income, combined with the world-class training these veterans receive, makes them ideal employees.”

Vulcanair says the plant can expand up to 80,000 square feet to meet production increases if needed.
