Several months back, Bladen County EMS switched over to Zoll monitors on all of our ambulances. Zoll recognizes cardiac arrest saves and gives first responder crews involved challenge coins and certifications for the save. On Wednesday, February 10, several Bladen County EMS employees, a white lake police officer, several White Lake Volunteer firefighters, and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatchers were recognized by Zoll and Bladen County for their amazing efforts. These Bladen County crews from all different agencies were involved in two cardiac arrest calls within a week.

On the morning of January 24, 2021, crews were dispatched to a cardiac arrest at White Lake. The first responders involved in that save were as follows:

Bladen County EMS:

On the evening of January 29, 2021, crews were dispatched to a chest pain call which was a patient having a heart attack that led to cardiac arrest. The first responders involved were as follows:

Bladen County EMS:

The award ceremony was held at Bladen County EMS Base. The ceremony began at 6:30 pm, awards were presented by Jamie Rivera, Captain Bladen County EMS, Heather Ellis, Training Officer Bladen County EMS, David Howell, Director Bladen County EMS, Andrea Jannarone, Zoll Representative.

Bladen County Emergency Services Director, Nathan Dowless offers comments toward the end of the ceremony. Dowless stated, “this is what it is all about, to have some many different agencies working together to help another, to provide the best care possible for the citizens of Bladen County.” “We are a blessed county to have so many caring and skilled first responders.”

Bladen County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Charles Peterson was also in attendance. He presented each first responder with a Bladen County Challenge Coin on behalf of the commissioner’s board. Chairman Peterson, on behalf of the Bladen Commissioners Board, expressed his appreciation for these first responders and all the first responders in the county. Peterson stated,” I am so thankful for all of our EMS staff, volunteer fire departments, Sheriff’s office, and local police departments for the outstanding job they do for the citizens of Bladen County.”
