Back to school is an exciting and nervous time for many students across Bladen County. Some students will be starting school without the necessary supplies they need to be successful in the classroom. In order to change that, A Back to School Fling is planned for Saturday, August 26, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in Elizabethtown.

The event will feature giveaways of school supplies as well as plenty of games and entertainment. The event is sponsored by Ricky DD’s Party Entertainment, Cape Fear Valley-Bladen Healthcare, and C. I. K. Kids Movement.

Shaundra Todd, one of the event’s organizers said, “The hospital will be there and performing some screenings.” There will be information available such as Asthma education, vaccination information, and healthy school lunch ideas.

Todd said there will also be face painting, slime crafts, and hot dogs will be available as well. There will also be appearances by Mickey and Minnie Mouse, spiderman, Doc McStuffins, Dora, Power Rangers, Minions and Clowns.

Derrick Lewis said he has done research and learned there are between 300 to 500 students each year who go back to school with the school supplies they need and he became began the Back to School Drive earlier this summer to try and change that. His goal is to be able to give 300 to 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to children at this event.
