CLINTON – Jonathan Wright pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 as Four County Conference leader Clinton held off West Bladen 4-2 on Friday night.

The senior right-hander struck out five of the last six batters he faced in outdueling West Bladen’s Chandler Lennon. Lennon gave up five hits, struck out six and was hurt by a pair of unearned runs.

Lennon led West Bladen at the plate, going 2-for-3, including a towering triple off the fence in center field. Jarrett Williams had a run-scoring single in the sixth for the Knights.

West Bladen lost its fourth straight and is 3-9 overall, 2-4 in Four County play. The Knights are scheduled to host St. Pauls on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a non-conference game.

Clinton is 7-4 overall and 5-0 in league games. The Dark Horses are tied with East Bladen in the Four County standings.

West Bladen scored an unearned run in the first inning. Jeremy Hunt reached on an infield error, stole second, moved to third on Lennon’s one-out ground out, and scored on a passed ball.

Clinton answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Wright reached on a missed third strike. Courtesy runner Chase Jacobs went to second when Blake Davis was hit by a pitch. Jordan Lillinston followed with a single to right that scored Jacobs.

Clinton took a 3-1 lead in the third inning on Zack Parker’s two-run single to center. The Dark Horses added another run in the fourth when Trey Warren drew a two-out walk, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on an infield error.

West Bladen cut into the lead in the sixth. Lennon led off with a single to right. Courtesy runner Jonathan Ashworth moved to second on a ground out and scored on Williams’ ground ball single down the first base line that made it 4-2.

However, the Knights couldn’t get anything going after that.
