FAIRMONT – Senior Pierce Melvin and sophmore Freddy Wooten combined to pitch a 4-hitter and strike-out 10 batters as East Bladen rolled past Fairmont 10-1 Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

Melvin pitched the first 6 innings and allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and no earned runs while striking out eight. Wooten worked a perfect 1-2-3 seventh inning of relief with 2 strike-outs.

Seniors Greyson Heustess and Shy Pone and junior Gabe Barber started the game with consecutive hits. Wooten forced Barber at second base, but Heustess and Pone both scored on the play. Senior Dan Tatum rapped a single to centerfield that drove in Wooten.

Sophmore Zach Meares, junior Xavier McKoy, Heustess and Barber belted singles in the second inning with Barber’s single driving in McKoy as the Eagle lead grew to 4-0.

Fairmont scored an unearned run in the fourth, but the Eagles answered with 4 runs in the fifth inning.

Sophmores Brady Hollingsworth and Meares drew walks, and Tatum laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Josh McKoy walked to force home Davis Alsup, the courtesy runner for Hollingsworth, and Xavier McKoy walloped a 3-run double to rightfield that scored Tatum, Meares and Josh McKoy to pad the lead to 8-1.

Meares slammed a 2-out double in the sixth inning, and Josh McKoy knocked him in with a single. Pone and Wooten belted singles in the seventh inning, and Hollingsworth smacked a single that drove in Pone with the final run.

Meares batted a perfect 2-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Heustess finished 3-5 at the plate with a run scored. Xavier McKoy batted 2-3 with the 3-run double and a run scored.

Pone was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, and Tatum batted 2-4 with an rbi and a run scored. Barber was 2-5 with an rbi. Josh McKoy delivered a 2-run single, and Hollingsworth and Wooten added one hit each.

Freshman Colby Thorndyke batted 2-4 with a double to lead the Fairmont hitters. Freshman Cameron Hodge started on the mound for the Tornadoes and also collected one hit.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles improved to 3-1 in the Three Rivers and will host St. Pauls Friday night.
