ST PAULS – Seniors Pierce Melvin and Spencer Scott teamed up to pitch a 2-hit shutout and strike-out 6 batters to lead East Bladen to a 10-0 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory over St. Pauls Tuesday night.

Melvin pitched the first 4 scoreless innings and allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out five. Scott pitched a perfect 1-2-3 fifth inning with one strike-out.

The Eagles jumped in front with a pair of first-inning runs. Senior Shy Pone reached base on a fielder’s choice, and sophmore Freddy Wooten lined a single to centerfield. Sophmore Brady Hollingsworth and senior Dan Taum drew walks to force home Pone. Wooten darted home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

Melvin waked to start the Eagle second inning. Senior Greyson Heustess swatted a single to right field, and Pone and Wooten reached base on errors as Melvin scored. Hollingsworth drew a walk to force home Heustess. Scott reached base on an error as Pone scored for a 5-0 lead.

Pone ripped a single to right field to start the East Bladen fourth. Wooten reached base on a fielder’s choice. Tatum and Scott drew walks to force home Pone. Junior Gabe Barber drilled a single to centerfield that scored Wooten and Tatum. Senior Josh McKoy beat out an infield hit, and Heustess walked to force home Scott. Pone walked to force home Barber for a 10-0 lead.

Barber, Wooten, Pone, Heustess and McKoy connected for one hit each to lead the Eagle hitters. Barber drove in 2 runs, and Scott, Hollingsworth, Tatum, Wooten, Pone and Heustess drove in one run each. Pone scored 3 runs, and Wooten scored two. Heustess, Tatum, Scott, Barber and Melvin scored one run each.

D. J. Hinson and Austin Locklear had one hit each for St. Pauls.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles improved to 10-3 in league play and 12-3 overall. East Bladen will host East Columbus Wednesday night.
