ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Spencer Scott pitched six strong innings and batted 3-4 to lead East Bladen to a 10-6 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory over St. Pauls Monday night.

Scott allowed 3 runs –none earned – on 5 hits and 2 hit batters while striking out four. At the plate Scott drove in 3 runs with his 3 hits that included a double.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-0 first inning lead on a hit batter, two errors and Austin Locklear’s 2-run single.

The Eagles answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Sincere Smith led off with a single to centerfield and raced around to third base as the ball was misplayed. Junior Greyson Heustess smacked a single to center field that scored Smith.

Sophmore Gabe Barber ripped a double to leftfield that scored Heustess. Junior Shy Pone walked, and Scott laced a single to centerfield that scored Barber and Pone.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the third as Pone raked a single to rightfield, and Scott drilled a double over the leftfielder’s head that scored Pone for a 5-2 lead.

Two East Bladen throwing errors sandwiched around a bunt plated a Bulldog run in the fifth inning that whittled the margin to 5-3.

The Eagles answered in the home fifth as Scott yanked a single to left, and freshman Freddie Wooten, Smith and Heustess drew consecutive walks with Davis Alsup, the courtesy runner for Scott, being forced home on Heustess’ walk.

East Bladen padded the lead with a 4-run sixth inning. Barber slapped a single past the shortstop, and Pone walked. Scott reached base on a fielder’s choice and consecutive sacrifice flies by junior Dan Tatum and freshman Zach Meares scored Barber and Pone.

Alsup who was running for Scott dashed home on a wild pitch, Freddie Wooten walked, and Smith smashed a single to left that scored Wooten for a 10-3 lead.

Smith relieved Scott and pitched the final inning. Two walks, an infield hit, two wild pitches and another run-scoring single by Locklear produced three St. Pauls runs.

Barber finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, a run batted in and 2 runs scored. Heustess batted 2-4 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Smith finished 2-4 at the plate with an rbi and a run scored.

Senior Xavier Wooten, Pone, and Tatum belted one hit each. Pone scored 3 runs, and Alsup scored two. Tatum and Meares drove in one run each.

Locklear batted 2-4 with an rbi to lead St. Pauls. Johnson cracked the 2-run single. Aaron Revels, the first of a trio of Bulldog pitchers, took the loss. Jeffrey Hinson and Isaac Garner followed Revels to the mound.

It was the fifth win in a row for Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles who improved to 7-8 in league play and 8-10 overall. East Bladen will host South Robeson Tuesday night.
