East Bladen High SchoolROSE HILL- Sophomore Pierce Melvin pitched a one-hitter and struck out ten batters to lead East Bladen to an 11-1 Four County Conference baseball victory over Union Tuesday night.

The Union hit came in the sixth inning and led to the Spartans only run. Melvin walked four as he picked up his third win in as many starts.

The Eagles grabbed a 3-0 first inning lead as sophomore Shy Pone and junior Sincere Smith began the game with back-to-back triples. Smith scooted home on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead, and senior Kyle Tatum walloped a solo home run.

Pone cracked a single in the fourth inning, stole 2 bases and scored to pad the Eagle lead to 4-0. Sophomore Josh McKoy was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning, and junior Brooks McGill blasted a triple that scored McKoy.

McGill darted home on junior Quinton Bedsole’s sacrifice fly, and Melvin walked and stole second. Pone knocked in Melvin with a single that stretched the East lead to 7-0.

Kyle Tatum smashed a triple to start the Eagle sixth inning, and McKoy slammed a double. McGill belted a single that scored McKoy. McGill moved up on a passed ball and raced home as Bedsole reached base on an error. Melvin knocked in Bedsole with a double for an 11-0 lead.

McGill batted a perfect 3-3 with a double, a triple and 2 runs batted in to lead the Eagles. Kyle Tatum slugged the home run and the triple and finished 3-4 at the plate and 2 runs scored. Pone also batted 3-4 with 2 runs scored and an rbi.

Smith tripled in a run and scored a run. Melvin doubled in a run and scored a run. McKoy doubled and scored 2 runs. Wooten doubled, and Bedsole drove in a run and scored one.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles improved to 11-2 in league play and 13-5 overall. East Bladen, now tied for first place in the Four County, will travel to West Bladen Thursday night.
