CLINTON – Senior catcher Kyle Tatum knocked in 6 runs with 4 doubles and led East Bladen to a 17-3 Four County Conference baseball victory over Clinton Tuesday night.

Kyle Tatum finished 4-5 at the plate and scored 2 runs. Junior Sincere Smith finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Sophmore Shy Pone was 3-6 with 2 rbi’s and 3 runs scored.

Junior Deondre Newkirk batted 2-4 with an rbi and 3 runs scored. Sophmore Greyson Heustess finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Josh McKoy doubled and drove in 2 runs.

Junior Quinton Bedsole doubled and scored, Xavier Wooten scored twice, and Nick Collins scored a run for the Eagles. Junior Ty Watkins drove in a run.

Watkins, a lefthander, scattered 6 hits, struck out 5 and allowed one run in his 6 innings on the mound to pick up the win. Wooten pitched the seventh and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs.

Smith was hit by a pitch, stole second and scooted home when Kyle Tatum slammed a double in the first inning. Tatum scored on an error as Wooten reached base, and Watkins lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Wooten for a 3-0 lead.

Zach Parker’s single drove in a Clinton run in the home first, but the Eagles tacked on 4 more runs in the second for a 7-1 lead. Heustess walked, stole second and Newkirk reached base on a passed third strike.

Pone cracked a single that scored Heustess, and Smith hammered a double that plated Newkirk. Kyle Tatum drilled a double that brought home Pone and Smith.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the fourth. Pone belted a single, stole second and third base and darted home when Kyle Tatum clubbed another double.

East Bladen padded the lead to 9-1 in the sixth. Newkirk walked and circled the bases on a passed ball and an error.

Collins walked to begin the seventh, and Bedsole smashed a double. Heustess delivered a single that plated Collins and Bedsole. Newkirk followed with a single. Pone and Smith belted singles that scored Heustess and Newkirk. Kyle Tatum blasted a double that plated Pone and Smith.

Wooten reached on an error, and McKoy connected for a double that scored Kyle Tatum. Newkirk’s second single of the inning scored Wooten with the final run.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles improved to 6-2 in conference play and 7-4 overall with the win and will host Pender Thursday at 7 p.m.
