CERRO GORDO – Senior Pierce Melvin and sophomore Freddy Wooten combined to pitch a 3-hitter and strike out ten batters Thursday night as their East Bladen Eagles defeated West Columbus 8-1 in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

Melvin worked the first 3.2 innings on the mound and allowed one run on 2 hits and 7 walks while striking out six. Wooten pitched the final 3.1 scoreless innings allowing only one hit and 3 walks while striking out four.

The Eagles struck for 4 runs in the third inning and broke the game open with 4 more runs in the seventh inning.

Senior Dan Tatum knocked in a third inning run with a single and later scored in the inning. Tatum also scored a run in the seventh inning. Senior Spencer Scott drove in runs in the third inning and seventh inning and collected one hit.

Senior Josh McKoy drove in a run with a seventh inning single and also scored a run. Sophomore Zach Meares scored a seventh inning run and also knocked in a run.

Wooten slammed a double to drive in a third inning run and later scored in the inning. Wooten also scored in the seventh inning. Junior Gabe Barber and senior Davis Alsup also scored runs for the Eagles.

Senior Cody Benton pitched the first 3 innings for the Vikings and was followed to the hill by junior Jagger Haynes and sophmore Ethan Hinson.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles evened their record at 1-1 and will host Wallace-Rose Hill Friday night.
