ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Zach Meares pitched 5-hit ball and struck out 12 batters over 6 innings to lead East Bladen to a 9-3 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory over South Columbus Tuesday night.

Junior Jacob Priest finished up on the mound for the Eagles and allowed a run on 3 walks and 2 hits in the 7th inning.

Sophomore Ethan Johnson legged out an infield hit and junior Dylan Fine walked in the Eagle 1st inning. Junior Lefrederick Wooten ripped a double to left field that scored Johnson and Fine for a 2-0 East lead.

The Eagles broke the game open with a 6-run, 2nd inning. Junior Drew Sholar lined a single to center field, sophomore Raymond Autry walked, and senior Xavier McKoy was hit by a pitch. Sholar dashed home on a passed ball, and Meares belted a single to right that plated Autry and Xavier McKoy.

Johnson reached base on an error, and Wooten lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Meares. Junior Brady Hollingsworth was hit by a pitch. Johnson raced home on an error, and RaSean McKoy, the courtesy runner for Hollingsworth, scored when Priest smacked a single to right that pushed the lead to 8-0.

Senior Ethan Kennedy walloped a double to deep left field that drove in the first 2 Stallion runs in the 6th inning. Wooten walked, stole 2 bases and dashed home on Greyson Clark’s grounder in the home half of the 6th to pad the East lead to 9-2.

Meares batted 2-for-4 with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Eagles. Wooten slugged a double, drove in 3 runs and scored one. Sholar, Priest and Johnson connected for 1 hit each. Priest and Clark drove in runs. Johnson scored twice, and Fine, Sholar, Autry, Xavier McKoy and RaSean McKoy scored 1 run each.

Logan McPherson, the 1st of 5 Stallion pitchers, took the loss. Kennedy batted 3-for-4 with the 2-run double. Senior Reid Gore finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Coach Grant Pait’s Eagles evened their Three Rivers record at 1-1 and will travel to Midway Wednesday night for a non-conference game.
