TEACHEY – Seniors Spencer Scott and Shy Pone teamed up to pitch a 3-hitter and strike-out six batters and lead East Bladen to a 9-1 non-conference baseball victory over Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday night.
The victory completed a double-header sweep for Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles who improved to 7-1 on the season. East Bladen won the first game of the double-header 8-5.
Scott pitched 6 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits and a walk while striking out four. Pone struck out 2 batters in a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
The Eagles took charge with a 4-run third inning. Scott smacked a single to centerfield, moved up on Davis Alsup’s sacrifice then stole third base. Courtesy runner Tyler Hill dashed home as senior Greyson Heustess reached base on an error.
Pone walked, and sophmore Freddy Wooten knocked in Heustess with a single. Sophmore Brady Hollingsworth drove in Pone with a fielder’s choice. Senior Dan Tatum cracked a single that scored Wooten for a 4-0 lead.
The Bulldogs scored a third inning on a Cody Whaley’s single, an error and a passed ball.
The Eagles tacked on 4 more runs in the sixth inning. Tatum reached base on an error and scooted home when sophmore Zach Meares smashed a double to rightfield. Senior Josh McKoy belted a single, and junior Xavier McKoy hammered a double to left that scored Meares and Josh McKoy. Pone slapped a single that scored Xavier McKoy.
Dylan Fine walked to begin the Eagle seventh inning, advanced on a pair of passed balls and scored on a double play to boost the lead to 9-1.
Meares batted 2-3 with 2 doubles, a run scored and a run batted in to lead the East hitters. Xavier McKoy drove in 2 runs with a double and scored a run. Pone, Wooten, Tatum and Josh McKoy added one hit each. Heustess, Pone, Wooten, Hollingsworth and Tatum had one rbi each. Hill, Josh McKoy, Fine, Tatum, Wooten, Pone and Heustess scored one run each.
The Eagles will host South Robeson Friday at 6 p.m.
