CLARKTON- Elizabethtown pounded out 14 hits en route to a 17-4 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Monday.

Evan Pait pitched a 4-hitter, struck out ten batters and issued six walks for the Cougars. At the plate Pait hammered 2 doubles, batted 3-5 and scored 3 runs. Garrison Tatum finished 2-3 at the plate with a triple and 3 runs scored. Weston Hatcher batted 2-3 with a double.

Teammate Hunter Smith walloped two triples and scored 3 runs. Coleman Tatum batted 2-4 and scored 3 runs. Nathan Howell slugged a triple and scored twice. Zamar Lewis slammed a triple, and Hunter Elks added a single. Elks, Lewis and Chase Knight scored one run each.

Elizabethtown jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning. Pait led off with a single, and Coleman Tatum was hit by a pitch. Garrison Tatum drilled a double, and Smith and Lewis blasted triples. Pait, Coleman and Garrison Tatum and Lewis scored runs.

Howell clobbered his triple to right-centerfield to begin the Cougar second. Coleman Tatum laced a single to center, Garrison Tatum walked and Hatcher smacked a single to right. Howell and Coleman and Garrison Tatum scored runs as the lead grew to 7-0.

Lee Barnes lashed a single to right-centerfield in the Blue Devil second and circled the bases on a pair of passed balls to trim the margin to 7-1.

Howell walked and Pait smashed a double in the Elizabethtown third inning. Coleman Tatum reached base on an error, Garrison Tatum walked and Smith was hit by a pitch. Hatcher clubbed a double to right. Howell, Pait, Coleman and Garrison Tatum and Smith scored runs to up the count to 12-1.

Johnathan Johnson rapped a single to center to start the CSD third. Garrett Dunham walked, Nyquan Richardson swatted a single to center, and Barnes doubled. Johnson and Dunham scored runs to whittle the lead to 12-3.

Smith crushed a triple to centerfield to begin the Cougar sixth. Elks pulled a single to left, Lewis reached base on an error, and Knight walked. Pait lined a double to center, Coleman Tatum raked a single to left and Garrison Tatum reached base on an error.  Smith, Elks, Lewis, Knight and Pait scored runs to boost the lead to 17-3.

Barnes reached base on an error to start the Clarkton sixth and scored on a passed ball.  Barnes batted 2-3 with a double and scored two runs. Richardson and Johnson contributed one hit each, and Dunham and Johnson scored runs.

Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars improved to 4-0 on the season and will host Harrells Christian Tuesday. Clarkton will entertain Nakina Tuesday.
