DUNN – Midway rode an 8-run 3rd-inning and a 5-run 6th inning to a 13-6 non-conference baseball victory over East Bladen Wednesday night.
Junior Zach Meares walked to start the game, and sophomore Ethan Johnson ripped a single to center field. Junior Dylan Fine’s ground ball plated Meares, and Johnson darted home on a passed ball for a 2-0 Eagle lead.
Johnson walked to begin the Eagle 3rd inning, then stole his way around the bases, stealing 2nd, 3rd and home to boost the lead to 3-0.
The Raiders bunched 6 hits and 3 walks to score 8 runs in the 3rd inning. Junior Jonathan Cooper slammed 2 doubles, and Eli Culbreth walloped a 2-run triple to highlight the rally.
Sophomore Raymond Autry drew a lead-off walk in the 4th inning and raced home when senior Xavier McKoy blasted a triple to right field. Junior RaSean McKoy’s fielder’s choice scored Xavier McKoy and trimmed the Raider lead to 8-5.
Johnson reached on an error to start the 5th inning. Fine laced a single to left, and junior Lefrederick Wooten knocked in Johnson with a single to centerfield.
Midway used 4 hits and 2 walks to score 5 runs in the 6th inning. Culbreth’s 2-run double keyed the rally.
Cooper batted a perfect 3-3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Culbreth finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Junior Hunter Gainey, senior Cameron Barefoot and Colin Avery belted 2 hits each.
Xavier McKoy slugged the rbi triple and scored a run. Junior Jay McKoy, junior Tyler Hill, Wooten, Fine and Johnson connected for 1 hit each. Fine, Wooten and Rasean McKoy drove in runs. Johnson scored 3 runs, and Meares and Autry scored 1 run each.
Junior Grayson Clark worked 2.2 innings on the mound for the Eagles and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and a walk while striking out one. Senior Lant Pait pitched 0.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 2 walks and 2 hits. Junior Drew Sholar worked the final 3 innings on the hill and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks.
Junior Sawyer Sutton pitched the first 3 innings for the Raiders and was followed to the mound by sophomore Caden Wilson and senior Cal Tyndall.
East Bladen, now 1-2, will travel to South Columbus Friday night.
