ELIZABETHTOWN – Midway took advantage of several East Bladen miscues to build a 13-0 lead en route to a 14-2 Four County Conference baseball victory Friday night.

The Raiders used a walk, an error and run-scoring singles by Adam Butler and Dustin Holland to take a 2-0 first inning lead.

A walk, 2 errors and a trio of Midway hits led to 5 more runs in the second inning, and the Raiders tacked on 6 more runs in the third.

Junior Sincere Smith smacked a single to rightfield in the Eagle half of the third and raced to third base on an error. After senior Kyle Tatum was hit by a pitch, junior Ty Watkins raked a single into rightfield that scored Smith.

The Raiders added a run in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Smith reached base on an error, moved to third on an infield out and scored on Watkins’ fielder’s choice.

Watkins pitched the first 3 innings for the Eagles, and junior Xavier Wooten relieved and worked the final 2 innings on the mound.

Watkins batted 2-3 with 2 runs batted in to lead the East hitters. Wooten also finished 2-3 at the plate. Smith singled and scored both Eagle runs. Junior Brooks McGill connected for the other East Bladen hit.

Butler and Holland both batted 3-4 to lead the Midway hitters. Chandler Williford worked the first 3 innings on the mound to pick up the win.

East Bladen, now 1-3, will host Clinton Tuesday at 7 p.m.
