East Bladen High SchoolDUNN – Midway pushed across an unearned run in the fourth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and edge East Bladen 3-2 Thursday night in a battle of Four County Conference leaders.

Sophomore Greg Nobles walked and senior Wesley Johnson smacked a single before an error plated Nobles with the go-ahead run.

The Raiders had grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Carson Calcutt and Nobles drew walks and Johnson slammed a 2-run double.

The Eagles tied the game in the top of the third. Sophmore Greyson Heustess walloped a double, and junior Deondre Newkirk laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Sophomore Shy Pone knocked in Heustess with a single, and senior Kyle Tatum belted a single. Junior Xavier Wooten reached base on an error as Pone scored the tying run.

Tatum batted 2-3 to lead the East Bladen hitters. Heustess doubled and scored. Pone and junior Ty Watkins connected for one hit each. Pone scored a run, and Wooten drove in a run.

Wooten pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 6 walks while striking out one. Pone pitched a scoreless sixth inning and allowed one hit.

Calcutt pitched a complete game 5-hitter and struck out eight to pick up the win for the Raiders.

The Eagles are now 5-2 in the Four County and 6-4 overall. Midway, now 6-1, leads 5-1 West Bladen by a half game and East Bladen by a game in the Four County standings.
