ELIZABETHTOWN – South Columbus defeated East Bladen 10-5 Friday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

The Stallions capitalized on 4 hits and 2 walks to score 5 runs in the top of the first inning.

Senior Sincere Smith slammed a double to start the Eagle first inning, stole third base and scored on senior Ty Watkins’ fielder’s choice.

The Stallions scored a run in the third, before the Eagles answered with two runs in the fourth to trim the South lead to 6-3.

Senior Quinton Bedsole was hit by a pitch, and junior Dan Tatum and Smith drew walks to load the bases. Senior Xavier Wooten knocked in Bedsole and Tatum with a single.

The Stallions tacked on a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pad their lead to 10-3.

Watkins belted a one-out single in the Eagle seventh inning, and juniors Pierce Melvin and Shy Pone drew walks. Sophmore Gabe Barber smacked a single that drove in both Watkins and Melvin.

Watkins batted 2-4 to lead the East Bladen hitters. Wooten and Barber delivered 2-run singles, and Smith slammed a double.

Melvin pitched the first 3 innings for the Eagles and allowed 6 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out six. Wooten worked the final 4 innings on the mound and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits, a walk and 2 hit batters. Wooten struck out seven.

Miller Gore batted 3-3 with a double to lead the Stallion hitters. Jamie Harrelson finished 2-3 at the plate, and Rajon Graham and Joseph Ward were both 2-4 at the plate. Grayson Stocks the first of four Stallion pitchers was credited with the win.

East Bladen will travel to Red Springs Tuesday night.
