FAYETTEVILLE – Sophomores Ethan Nobles and Benny Whiteaker knocked in 2 runs each to lead Terry Sanford to a 9-3 non-conference baseball victory over East Bladen Monday night.

Nobles walloped a 2-run triple to left field in the 3rd inning that grew the Bulldog lead to 6-1. Whiteaker squeezed home a run in the 1st inning, then doubled home a run in Terry Sanford’s 3-run 4th inning.

Freshman Josh Mozingo singled home a Bulldog run in the 4-run 1st inning and batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Senior Gehrig Hodges was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and 3 runs scored.

Senior Coleman Tatum walked to start the Eagle 2nd inning, and senior Weston Hatcher lined a single to left. Both runners moved up on Marlan Davis’ fielder’s choice, and Coleman Tatum raced home on a passed ball.

Senior Zamar Lewis reached base on an error in the Eagle 4th inning and sprinted around the bases to trim the Bulldog lead to 6-2 when Coleman Tatum hammered a double to right field.

Junior Jake Futrell drilled a single to right to begin the East Bladen 7th inning, but his courtesy runner, Darius Williamson, was forced at 2nd base by junior Tyler Johnson. Senior Evan Pait blasted a triple to right field that scored Johnson and whittled the final margin to 9-3.

Pait tripled and drove in a run to lead the Eagle hitters. Coleman Tatum doubled home a run and scored a run, and Lewis slammed a double and scored a run. Hatcher and Futrell belted 1 single each, and Johnson scored a run.

Senior Ty Mathis started and worked 3.2 innings on the hill for the Eagles allowing 9 runs – 6 earned – on 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out six. Futrell pitched 2.1 innings of 1-hit, scoreless relief and struck out four.

Senior Davis McLamb pitched 3-plus innings for Terry Sanford allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out five. Junior Brent Smith worked 2.2 innings of 1 hit relief and struck out six. Senior Nic Lane pitched the final 1.1 innings and gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk while striking out two.

The Eagles, now 2-2, will host West Brunswick Thursday night.
