TEACHEY – West Bladen worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning then exploded for 9 runs in the eighth to defeat Wallace-Rose Hill 13-4 in Four County Conference baseball action Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases with nobody out in the home seventh, but Knight firstbaseman Jarrett Williams made a diving catch of a foul pop for the first out. Thirdbaseman Hunter Pait fielded a ground ball and fired to the plate for a force-out then grabbed another grounder and stepped on third to end the inning.

Senior T. J Guyton walked and stole second base to start the Knight eighth. Williams ripped a single that plated Guyton with the go-ahead run. Senior Trent West walked, and junior Scott Bowen knocked in Williams with a single.

Senior Caleb Sholar was hit by a pitch, and freshman Logan West lined a double to rightfield that scored Trent West and Bowen. Pait cracked a single that plated Sholar, and senior Weston Pidgeon smacked a single that scored Logan West.

Guyton walked, and Williams delivered another run-scoring single that brought home Pait. Trent West walked to force home Pidgeon, and Bowen’s fielder’s choice scored Guyton and capped the 9-run inning.

Bowen who worked out of the bases-loaded jam in the seventh, struck out 2 batters in a 1-2-3 eighth to secure the pitching victory with 2.1 innings of relief.

Trent West started on the hill for the Knights and pitched 3.1 innings, striking out 4 and allowing 2 runs on no hits. Junior Trey Storms relieved in the fourth and pitched 2.1 innings striking out one and giving up 2 runs.

The Knights jumped in front with a pair of first inning runs. Pidgeon slammed a double to lead off the game, and Guyton walloped a long single over the centerfielder’s head. Williams laced a single that scored Pidgeon, and Guyton scored on a double-play.

Sholar belted a single to start the Knight second, and Logan West was safe on a fielder’s choice. Pait walked, and Sholar dashed home on a passed ball. An error on Guyton’s fly ball scored Logan West for a 4-0 lead.

Two walks and an error plated two Bulldog runs in the third. Jacob Teachey slugged a Bulldog home run in the fifth, and Josh Cavenaugh singled and scored on a 2-out single in the sixth to tie the game 4-4.

Williams batted 3-5 with 3 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Knight hitters. Sholar finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Pidgeon was 2-5 at the plate with a double, an rbi and 2 runs scored.

Logan West swatted the 2-run double and scored twice. Pait, Bowen and Guyton added one hit each. Guyton scored 3 runs. Bowen drove in 2 runs and scored one. Pait and Trent West drove in a run each and scored one run each.

Coach Kim Cain’s Knights improved to 6-1 in league play and 8-5 overall. West Bladen will host Heide Trask Friday at 7 p.m.
