West Bladen High School LogoSophomore Trent West struck out 8 and only allowed 2 hits to lead West Bladen to a 14-0 non-conference, season-opening baseball victory at St. Pauls Monday night.

West pitched the first 5 innings and gave up no runs, 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter Junior Jeremy Hunt gave up a single in his one inning of relief.

Senior Trevor Lesane cracked a 2-out single to ignite a 4-run first inning for the Knights. Lesane stole second base and darted home when West yanked a single to left.

Senior Michael Pastore parachuted a single over second base, and senior Colby McLean was hit by a pitch. Junior Troy Edge was hit by a pitch to force home the second run of the inning, and junior Chandler Lennon ripped a 2-run single to right-field that scored Pastore and courtesy runner Seth Britt.

Lesane drilled a double off the left-centerfield fence with 2 out in the second inning and raced home when West pulled a run-scoring single to left-field for a 5-0 West Bladen lead.

In the Knight fourth inning, Hunt belted a single to center-field, and Lesane, West and Pastore drew walks to force home Hunt with the sixth Knight run. A throwing error on Edge’s slow roller  brought home Lesane and courtesy runner Malcolm Vaught and pushed the Knight lead to 8-0.

Lesane drew a walk to begin the Knight sixth inning. Pinch-runner Vaught advanced on a balk and a wild pitch and scooted home when Pastore swatted a single to right-field. Walks to McLean and Edge loaded the bases.

After Pastore scampered home on a wild pitch, a walk to Lennon reloaded the bases. Jarrett Williams was hit by a pitch to force home McLean, and Weston Pidgeon’s infield out scored Edge.

Hunt’s infield hit brought home Lennon, and a throwing error on the play scored Williams with the final Knight run.

Lennon batted 2-3 with a double, 2 runs-batted-in and a run scored. Lesane finished 2-3 with a double and 3 runs scored. West and Pastore were both 2-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s each. Pastore scored 2 runs.

Hunt was 2-5 with an rbi and a run scored. Edge, Williams, and Pidgeon had one rbi each.

Coach Kim Cain’s Knights travel to West Columbus today for a 6 p.m. game.
