CERRO GORDO – West Bladen’s Knights claimed their third victory of the week Saturday with a 5-4 win over West Columbus in non-conference baseball action.

Senior Weston Pidgeon was hit by a pitch to start the game, and senior T. J. Guyton sacrificed him to second base. Senior Trent West knocked in Pidgeon with a single.

Viking senior Gage Hammond tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the first.

Senior Caleb Sholar cracked a single to begin the Knight second inning. Freshman catcher Jake Butler was hit by a pitch, but senior Hunter Pait’s grounder forced Sholar at third.

Pidgeon beat out an infield hit to load the bases, before Guyton lined a single off the thirdbaseman’s glove that scored Ian Sykes, the courtesy runner for Butler, and Pait.

The Vikings trimmed the Knight lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second, but Trent West walked and stole second base to start the Knight third inning. Freshman Logan West hammered a double off the leftfield fence to drive in Trent West.

After Butler walked, Pait laced a single to leftfield that drove in Logan West and pushed the West Bladen lead to 5-2.

Hammonds blasted his second home run in the Viking third inning and singled and scored the final West Columbus run in the fifth. Hammonds batted 3-4 with the 2 home runs to lead the Viking hitters. Sophmore Cody Benton started on the hill for the Vikings.

Sholar worked the first 4.1 innings on the mound to pick up the victory. Junior Scott Bowen relieved in the fifth and worked out of trouble with the help of a double play from thirdbaseman Pait to secondbaseman Pidgeon to firstbaseman Jarrett Williams.

Bowen pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the save. Sholar struck out 4 batters, and Bowen struck out three.

Trent West batted 2-3 with a run batted in and a run scored to lead the Knight hitters. Guyton belted the 2-run single. Logan West slammed the rbi double and scored a run. Pait smacked the rbi single, and Sholar, Pidgeon and Bowen added a single each. Sykes, Pidgeon and Pait also scored runs.
