ROCKY POINT – Senior Trent West and junior Scott Bowen combined to pitch a 6-hitter with 11 strike-outs as West Bladen defeated Heide Trask 6-1 Friday night in Four County Conference baseball action.

Trent West struck out nine in his 5 innings on the mound and allowed a run on 4 hits. Bowen pitched the final 2 scoreless innings, striking out 2 and giving up 2 hits.

The Knights jumped in front with 3 runs in the first inning. Senior Weston Pidgeon led off with a single and stole second base. Senior T. J. Guyton beat out an infield hit and an error on the play plated Pidgeon.

Senior Jarrett Williams crushed a triple over the rightfielder’s head that scored Guyton, and Trent West knocked in Williams with a single.

Senior Hunter Pait belted a single in the second inning and raced home when Guyton swatted a single for a 4-0 lead.

Trask trimmed the margin to 4-1 in the fifth, but the Knights tacked on 2 runs in the sixth. Pait drew a walk, advanced on a balk and sprinted home when Guyton delivered another single. Guyton took second base on the throw to the plate and darted home when Williams laced a single.

Guyton topped the West Bladen hitters with a 3-4 performance, scored 2 runs and drove in 2 runs. Williams batted a perfect 2-2 with the triple, 2 runs batted in and a run scored.

Senior Caleb Sholar turned in a 2-4 night at the plate. Pait singled and scored twice. Trent West cracked an rbi single. Pidgeon singled and scored a run and freshman Logan West added a bunt single.

Coach Kim Cain’s Knights improved to 2-0 in the Four County and 4-3 overall. West Bladen will host West Columbus Saturday at 3 p.m.
