SHALLOTTE – West Brunswick snapped a 7-7 tie with 4 runs in the home half of the 6th inning and defeated East Bladen 11-7 Tuesday night in their non-conference baseball opener.

The Trojans built an early 5-1 lead, but East rallied with 3 runs in the 4th then tied the game 5-5 in the 5th inning. West Brunswick went up with 2 runs in the home 5th, but the Eagles pulled even again with 2 runs in the top of the 6th.

Parker Greene batted 3 for 4, scored a run and drove in a run to lead the Eagle hitters. Teammate Kalec Autry doubled, scored twice and had a run batted in. Jmarius Smith, Darius Williamson and Jake Futrell smacked 1 hit each for East. Smith scored twice, and Cole Butler and Britt Sasser scored 1 run each. Futrell knocked in 2 runs, and Smith and Williamson had 1 RBI each.

Futrell pitched 3 innings for the Eagles and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2. Davion Lewis worked .2 innings of relief and gave up an unearned run on 1 hit. Sasser pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 5 runs – 3 earned – on a hit, a walk and 2 hit batsmen.

The Eagles will host West Brunswick in a return match Friday night. The East Bladen jayvees lost their opener to the Trojan jayvees 9-4 Tuesday night.
