ELIZABETHTOWN- West Brunswick capitalized on some early errors to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back enroute to a 13-3 non-conference baseball victory over East Bladen Thursday night.

The Eagles trimmed the margin to 5-2, but the Trojans pushed the lead back to 7-2 and then 13-2 before a late East Bladen run.

Singles by Linden Clemmons and Sincere Ledbetter and a walk produced a Trojan run in the 1st inning. Three Eagle errors and hits by Garrett Powell and Ledbetter resulted in 4 more West runs in the 2nd as the lead grew to 5-0.

Junior Jake Futrell led off the East 2nd inning with a single but was retired on the bases. Senior Zamar Lewis reached base on an error. Senior Garrison Tatum smacked a single, and senior Coleman Tatum reached base on an error as Lewis and Jmarius Smith, the courtesy runner for Garrison Tatum, scored to trim the margin to 5-2.

A walk and singles by Clemmons and Landon Everhart delivered 2 more runs in the 4th inning and pushed the West lead to 7-2. Three hits, 3 walks and an error produced 6 more Trojan runs in the 6th inning and opened up a 13-2 lead.

Senior Ty Mathis walloped a triple to right-center field in the Eagle 6th, and Futrell ripped a shot off the shortstop that plated Mathis.

Mathis finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a run scored. Senior Marlan Davis, Futrell, Lewis, and Garrison Tatum connected for 1 hit each. Smith and Lewis scored runs.

Senior Evan Pait started and pitched 4 innings allowing 7 runs – 3 earned – on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out five. Coleman Tatum worked 2 innings of relief allowing 6 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out four.

Clemmons batted 2-for-4 with 4 runs scored to lead the Trojans. Ledbetter was also 2-for-4 with a run scored. Powell finished 2-for-5 at the plate with 3 runs scored, and Noah Fluharty doubled.

Clemmons pitched all 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 11.

The two teams are scheduled to play again Friday night at West Brunswick. East Bladen is now 2-2 on the season.
