CERRO GORDO – West Columbus took advantage of 10 walks, five hit batters and four errors to defeat West Bladen 10-3 on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game.

Each team had six hits, but the Vikings used the additional base runners to score seven runs over their final two at-bats to break the game open.

Trent West led West Bladen’s offense, going 2-for-2, including a towering two-run homer deep to left in the first inning. Seth Britt, Ray Jones, Jarrett Williams and Donald McCullum each had one hit.

West pitched the first three innings for the Knights, walking six and allowing two hits before leaving with the score knotted at 3-all. Troy Edge pitched 1 2/3 innings, Williams went 2/3 and Scott Bowen pitched to the final two West Columbus batters.

Ozzly Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of doubles, and also pitched fifth innings to get the win for West Columbus. Trey Benton was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

West’s homer staked the Knights to a 2-0 first-inning lead.

West Columbus got one run back in the first on a pair of walks and an error, then tied it in the second on a walk and Johnson’s double to the right field corner.

West Bladen regain the lead in the top of the third when Jeremy Hunt walked, stole second and scored on West’s infield single, but West Columbus tied it at 3-all in the bottom of the third on a walk, error and ground out.

West Columbus took its first lead with three runs in the fifth for a 6-3 advantage. The Vikings used four hit batters, a RBI-double from Johnson and a two-run double from Benton.

The Vikings added four runs in the sixth on only one hit, an error, three walks, and a wild pitch on a third-strike that made it 10-3.

West Bladen, now 1-3, is scheduled to play at Union on Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. in its Four County Conference opener.
