DUBLIN – Righthander Cody Benton pitched a 2-hitter and cracked a 2-run single to lead West Columbus to a 5-1 non-conference baseball victory over West Bladen.

The Vikings scored 2 runs in the second, one in the fifth and 2 more on Benton’s single in the seventh.

West Bladen pushed across their only run in the seventh. Senior Hunter Pait lined a one-out single to leftfield, and senior Weston Pidgeon walked.

Senior Jarrett Williams reached base on an error, but Pait was caught in a rundown between third and home. However a throwing error in the rundown play allowed Pait to score.

Pait connected for the only two West Bladen hits. “We just didn’t hit the ball today,” said Knight Coach Kim Cain.

Senior righthander Caleb Sholar pitched into the seventh inning for the Knights , and junior Scott Bowen finished up.

“Caleb pitched a pretty good ballgame, and the defense didn’t make an error,” said Coach Cain. “Logan (West) made a couple of great plays at shortstop to take hits away from them.”

The Knights are now 7-5 and will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Tuesday night.
