The Bay Tree Lakes Volunteer Fire Department with some assistance from White Lake Water Rescue, rolled out of the fire department bright and early Thursday morning carrying gifts for the children at New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital.

Lt. Kevin Talbert said this year’s toy run is the first of what the firefighters hope will become an annual tradition for both the fire department and the community.  “Many children will not get to spend their Christmas at home and we hope to make it as special as we can for them,” said Talbert in a release on the Bay Tree Lakes website.

The gifts will be distributed to children who are in-patient residents of the Children’s Hospital and due to the nature of their treatments will not be able to spend Christmas at home.

Talbert said,” I really want to thank all of the people from the Bay Tree community for all the gifts they sent.”

He added that Bay Tree Lakes VFD had received assistance from White Lake Water Rescue with a motorcycle escort and with transporting the many toys that were received.  Talbert, and his wife Kimberly, estimated there were more than 30 bags filled with toys donated by members of the community.

Talbert said he especially wanted to thank not only the members of the community but also wanted to say a special thank you to Phoebe and Billy McGavock, Wayne Ramsey from White Lake Fire Department and White Lake Water Rescue; and Kevin and Tammy Keshler, and Dottie Long of Long’s Store for their assistance in helping to make this year’s toy run a success.
