DUBLIN – Beginning with the Fall Semester, Bladen Community College is offering a new career track. Medical Office Administration will provide a 2-year degree program, a 1-year diploma program, and a certificate opportunity for interested students.
The Medical Office Administration curriculum prepares individuals for employment in medical and health-care related offices. Coursework includes medical terminology, information systems, office management, medical coding, billing and insurance, legal and ethical issues, and formatting and word processing.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth outlook for Medical Administration careers in 2012 was estimated at about 16% while the estimated growth for all career fields over that same span was about 10.12%. Until 2018, Medical Administration jobs are expected to grow at a 58% higher rate than the national average for annual salaries.
With successful program completion, an individual will be employable with medical and dental offices, medical supply companies, laboratories, insurance companies, and other health-care related organizations.
BCC Department Chair for Business Programs, Lee Anne Bryan, remarks, “We are excited to offer this new career opportunity to students. With the rapid growth we are seeing in the health-care industry, there is tremendous job potential with this degree.”
Students can register for Medical Office Administration during the BCC registration scheduled for November 3 – 6, 2015. Students with Office Administration credits have already completed some of the core classes required for Medical Office Administration.
