DUBLIN – Bladen Community College will welcome Dr. Stanley Knick to campus on March 26, 2018, at 11 A.M. in the library (building 7) to discuss Contemporary Challenges Facing Native Americans.
Before his retirement, Dr. Knick was Research Associate Professor and Director of the Native American Resource Center at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. During this tenure, he taught university courses in Native American health, contemporary issues of Native Americans, archaeology, cultural anthropology, and video ethnography.
His current interests include video ethnography of N.C. American Indians, Native American health, archaeology in southeastern North Carolina, art and culture of Native Americans, and global traditional cultures.
Dr. Knick is a recipient of the Hamilton McMillan Award for service to the Lumbee Indian community and is an honorary member of the Lumbee Tribe.
In his presentation, Dr. Knick will address the issues of cultural diversity, stereotypes, state and federal government regulation, religious freedom, health and substance abuse, and the Pan-Indian movement from cultural and historical perspectives.
