Bladen Community College Trustee and Chair, Dennis Troy, recently attended the national leadership congress of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) in New York City. Troy currently serves on the ACCT national board.

Mr. Troy joined more than 2,000 trustees, presidents, chancellors, government officials, foundation representatives, and experts from across the country who attended the conference exchanging critical information and ideas on successful new models, innovations, and trends.

“Community colleges are uniquely committed to access to high-quality higher education for all citizens, as well as a vital pipeline to the jobs that support communities and keep our country going strong” stated Troy.  “This position on the national board and the opportunity to participate in the ACCT Leadership Congress gives me a unique perspective of community colleges on a broader scale.  I hope to bring what I learned and experienced to Bladen Community College and my community.

BCC president William Findt remarked that Mr. Troy’s dedication to student learning is an asset to the national board. “The board is fortunate to have a member like Mr. Troy who brings a strong record of service to his community and to this college,” Findt said.

Previously, Mr. Troy served for three years on the board of directors for the Southern Region of ACCT, and on the ACCT Executive Committee.  Troy is a long standing member of the Bladen Community College Board of Trustees and is currently serving as chairperson.   He is an advocate for the college and its mission.

The ACCT’s stated mission is to foster greater understanding of and appreciation for community college boards, support boards in their efforts to develop public policies focusing on meeting community needs, help build board governance leadership and advocacy capacity through in-service education and training programs, and support boards through specialized services and programs.
