(Fayetteville, NC June 18, 2019) Rainbow Pediatrics founder Taner Esensoy, MD, is pleased to announce the addition of a new pediatric provider who has expertise in behavioral health and culinary medicine. Board certified in both psychiatry and primary care, Laurie Powers, PA recently joined the team and began seeing patients in their Fayetteville clinic.

Rainbow Pediatrics is a leading provider of pediatric care with three locations throughout Southeastern North Carolina.

“Our mission of building lifelong positive relationships with our families has come full circle with the addition of a behavioral health expert to our team,” said Dr. Esensoy. A graduate of Duke University’s Physician Assistant program, Laurie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Fayetteville area. Laurie’s extensive experience in both in and outpatient mental health includes working for 14 years as a psychiatric provider alongside renowned Psychiatrist, John Lesica, MD and for five years at Lighthouse Counseling Center where she worked with children, adolescents, and young adults. Early in her mental health career, Mrs. Powers began identifying behavioral triggers in her patients and correlated them to diet and lifestyle. By weaving the concept of wellness and
culinary medicine into her treatments Mrs. Powers’s patients made significant improvements, at times eliminating the need for medication.

“Sadly, there is a stigma associated with kids seeing psychiatrists,” said Mrs. Powers. “Offering behavioral health counseling within a pediatric practice is a wonderful alternative to begin providing solutions for local families.”

Mrs. Powers offers family education and non-medication options for behavioral health. Her goal is to stimulate lifestyle changes and incorporate therapy, if applicable, before initiating medication. She also offers pharmacogenetics testing, if needed, to help make the best treatment decisions for a child. When medication is necessary, she believes in using the lowest dose for the shortest amount of time whenever possible. When applicable, Mrs. Powers offers
treatment for mood with diet and/or medical food. She is adept at maintaining continuity of care, when appropriate, with any involved therapists or physicians.

Mrs. Powers practice is dedicated to delivering care to existing patients at the Fayetteville Rainbow Pediatrics clinic, located at 1327 Robeson Street.
