A benefit will take place today (Saturday, April 1) at the Bladenboro Historical Society Building from noon until 7 p.m. for baby JT Higgs. Parents Kelsey Cox and Jacobe Higgs received the news in March baby JT’s leukemia has returned and appears to be very aggressive. Currently, Kelsey is unable to work as she is spending time with JT at the hospital and Jacobe is trying to work and travel between their home and the hospital. All funds raised at this event will go to baby JT and his family.

The Bladenboro Benefit Committee has planned the fundraiser to assist the family with expenses. There will be plenty for people to see and do. Beginning at noon, registration will be open for those wishing to take part in the bike ride. Cost is $20 and kick stands up at 1:30 p.m. The cost does include a barbecue plate. Raffle tickets are available at Pawn South, Bryant Pawn and through committee members. The raffle tickets are for two different guns. Tickets for raffle are $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20.

JT has begun another series of chemotherapy treatments and his parents are hopeful that he will be able to participate in a clinical trial that is offered at Duke University Medical Center. Ultimately, JT will need a bone marrow transplant. At 3 p.m. there will be a “Be the Match” registration for prospective Bone Marrow Donors.

Also beginning at 3 p.m., there will be  face painting, a petting zoo,”Traxx the Train”, dunking booth, the fire department will be on hand with games, there will be an EMS Demonstration. There will also be visits from  Sparky the Fire Dog, the Easter Bunny and Elsa. Tickets will be available or you can purchase a $5 arm band and play games and enjoy the rides as much as you like. Bring the children and let them have a great time and raise money to help J.T., who is very sick.

Soft drinks will be available as well as Sunset Slush of the South. There will also be popcorn and cotton candy available.

At 3 p.m. on the stage there will be live entertainment featuring local talent. There will be singing, dancing, etc.

Don’t forget tot check out the Bake Sale. Some of the best cooks around will be baking cakes, pies, cupcakes and cookies

Beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing until 7 p.m.  the Benefit Committee will be serving Barbeque Plates w/all the “fixins” and tea or water.

At 7 p.m., there will be a “Sending up Prayers” balloon release.

All food and supplies needed for the benefit have been donated by individuals or churches; therefore, all funds raised will go directly to J.T. and his family
