BeachMusicOne Bladen County band is preparing for their television debut. The Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band will be featured on the show Bands of the Sand on The North Carolina Channel (Time Warner Cable Channel 1276 or over-the-air channel 39.4) at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 15. The program features a series of performances by some of the leading beach music bands in the Carolinas.

The Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band is based in Clarkton performs a variety of music including beach music, blues and funk. The band’s song Dance Tonight reached No. 1 on the Beach Music Top 40 in 2015.

The band plays about 100 shows per year and will once again be featured at the Summer Sounds Concert Series in August at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in Elizabethtown. The band also plays such venues as Ducks in North Myrtle Beach, SC, 2001 Night Club in Myrtle Beach, SC and many other venues along the East Coast.

The band features Dale Edwards on trombone and vocals; Donald Jordan on guitar and vocals; Greg Elkins, on trumpet, valve trombone, keyboards, and vocals; William Sellers on keyboard and vocals; Kendrix Singletary is the lead vocalist; Billy Little on saxophone and vocals; Billy Prease on drums; Neill Singletary on bass guitar; and Fred Cook on saxophone. Eddie Cogle is the band’s sound engineer.

Other bands featured on the Bands of the Sand series include the Band of Oz, Craig Woolard and the Embers, Steve Owens and Summertime, Jim Quick and Coastline, Carolina Breakers, Fantastic Shakers, North Tower and Envision.
