GASTONIA – Bladen County was edged 3-2 in extra time by Wilson Sunday in the semi-finals of the StateWide Activities Committee’s 10U Boys State Soccer Tournament.

With 20 seconds left in regulation play and the score tied 2-2, Bladen County thought they had scored the game-winning goal, but it was taken away on a penalty. The teams then went into a sudden-death overtime period, and Wilson scored 5 minutes into the overtime to end the game.

“It was a great game,” said Bladen Coach Joseph Russ. “We caught a terrible break on that call at the end of the game.”

Conner Padrick staked Bladen County to a 1-0 lead with a goal 15 minutes into the game. Seven minutes later Kevin Labra fired in a goal to put Bladen County ahead 2-0 at halftime. Wilson tied the game in the second half.

Labra led the Bladen attack with 6 goals in their 3 games in the tournament. Padrick totaled 4 goals in the tournament for Bladen County.

“Our team was great and very aggressive,” said Coach Russ. “They played with all their heart and definitely left it all on the field.”
