Brian Bednar of Birdseye Renewable Energy is expected to address the Bladen County Board of Commissioners on Monday night to seek support for a matter before the N.C. Utilities Commission that could continue growth of solar energy in the county.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the lower level assembly room of the Bladen County Courthouse in Elizabethtown. The public is invited to attend. It will be the final regularly scheduled meeting for the board in 2019.

Friesian Holdings is behind a proposed project to upgrade more than 60 miles of Duke Energy’s transmission infrastructure, according to a letter of support the commissioners are expected to approve Monday. Friesian’s upgrades, the letter reads, are the best way to continue solar investment in Bladen County in a timely manner.

Bladen County has more than 200 megawatts of operating solar farms, according to the proposed letter of support.

The N.C. Utilities Commission is considering Friesian’s proposal.
