Students who want to make a difference in the lives of others and become a licensed teacher can now start their career path at Bladen Community College.  Bladen Community College offers two new university transfer degrees–Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation.

These degrees allow aspiring teachers to complete their first two years of general college education at Bladen Community College, transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree in education and then become licensed elementary, middle and high school educators.

Dr. Amanda Lee, President of Bladen Community College said the new teacher prep degree programs are intended to help fuel the pipeline of teachers in North Carolina. “North Carolina is experiencing a teacher shortage and these degree programs allow community colleges like Bladen Community College to join the effort of training qualified teachers in our community and the state. By starting at Bladen Community College, aspiring teachers can explore a rewarding teaching career through a more affordable option and live closer to home.”

The Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation is designed for those who want to teach in the humanities or social sciences and the Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation is tailored for those with an interest in STEM-science, technology, engineering and math.

Both teacher prep degrees are comprised of 60 credit hours of college transfer courses allowing students who meet requirements the opportunity to transfer as a junior to 15 University of North Carolina System institutions and a number of North Carolina private colleges and universities.

Bladen Community College also offers early childhood education programs which prepare individuals to work with children from birth to kindergarten.  Learn more about all these teaching programs by contacting Dr. Priscilla Pope McAnulty at priscillapope@bladencc.edu
