Bladen Community College will be offering Firearms Training and Qualification for Troop B of the NC Highway Patrol during the month of March.

This is the first class of state troopers the college has enrolled.

According to Donald Bryan, BCC Director for Emergency Services, “All law enforcement workers are required to complete an annual in-service firearms training class. The college has taught these classes for the sheriff’s department and police department for years, at no charge.”

“Barry Pait, Lead Training Officer for Bladen County, contacted the college to ask for this training,” explains Sondra Guyton, Vice President for Workforce and Continuing Education. “We anticipate enrolling about 250 troopers over the next four weeks.”

Bladen Community College offers in-service training to businesses and industries who need customized training for employees. Typically, the tuition cost is $70 per student. For law enforcement officers, the state waives the fee, a savings of over $17,000 for the county.

For the highway patrol troopers, the class will provide 12 hours of training on an approved firing range. BCC faculty members will co-instruct with a trainer from the patrol.
