Bladen Community College was filled with excitement on Wednesday morning as a groundbreaking ceremony was conducted for the construction of a new classroom facility.

The building, when completed, will measure 19,967 square feet and will feature a 125-seat teaching auditorium, a conference room, two EMS labs, two science labs, and five classrooms as well as faculty offices and offices which will house the continuing education department staff.

Sondra Guyton, Vice-President for Continuing Education, said the building will be “a great resource for the county and will also be a great resource for the students” who will take classes in the building. In her remarks Guyton siad the new facility will now allow the curriculum programs as well as continuing education programs to be housed together in one location.

The building is being constructed with funds from the North Carolina Connect Bond referendum which was approved by voters in 2016.

Bladen County Commissioner Chairman Ray Britt spoke about the new facility. The Rev. Cameron McGill gave the invocation and BCC Board fo trustees Chairman Dennis Troy also spoke. Bladen Community College Student Ambassador Nasheika Kelly also addressed those in attendance.
