Mary WhitikerMartin Luther King, Jr. was a very influential person in America. He spoke of unity and freedom for all.

Monday, January 18th is the day the whole country celebrates the American hero, and an assembly was held Thursday, January 14th in his honor at Bladen Community College.

Erika Whitaker, Chief Executive Officer of Southeastern Community & Family Services, spoke at the assembly.

Ms. Whitaker encouraged students, faculty, staff, and guests to “know who you are and believe in who you are.”

Southeastern Community & Family Services has a similar philosophy to the late Mr. King. Their mission is, “to do all things necessary or proper to aid in improving the education, economic opportunities, living environment and general welfare of the people.”

Bladen Community College along with the assistance of Whitaker not only reminded those in attendance of the dream that Mr. King had, but encouraged everyone to seek their own dreams.
