Dublin, NC — January 17, 2025 — Bladen Community College Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of A Brighter Day Scholarship, a new annual award designed to provide financial assistance and opportunities for higher education to individuals facing significant personal and financial challenges. The scholarship will give priority to ex-offenders, single parents, and students with little or no financial aid.

A Brighter Day Scholarship, provided by Merlin Jerome and Yolanda Smith, owners of Crosse Branch LLC, seeks to empower individuals who have overcome adversity or are working to build better lives for themselves and their families. The scholarship will be available to students enrolled at Bladen Community College who demonstrate a commitment to furthering their education despite financial hardships and life circumstances.

“We are thrilled to launch the new A Brighter Day Scholarship, a support that aligns with our core mission to promote educational opportunities for all members of our community,” said Sondra Guyton, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Bladen Community College Foundation. “By focusing on ex-offenders, single parents, and students with minimal financial aid, we hope to remove barriers and provide a pathway for these deserving individuals to achieve their academic and career goals. A Brighter Day Scholarship reflects our commitment to fostering growth, hope, and brighter futures for those who need it most.”

A Brighter Day Scholarship will offer financial support for tuition, fees, and other related educational expenses. The scholarship is designed to help cover the gap for students who might otherwise struggle to afford the cost of their education.

Applications for the scholarship will be available through the Financial Aid and Foundation Offices. The Foundation encourages eligible students to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to support their educational journey.
