Bladen Community College  is offering a new 100% online credential that allows students to learn at home and potentially find work from home or upskill to find employment.

The IT Support Technician credential is designed in response to the United States Department of Labor 2018 report that projects a 10% growth for ‘Computer Support Specialist’ roles from 2018 – 2028.  This growth rate is faster than average for all occupations.  An IT Support Technician position is a ‘5-star’ job in North Carolina with entry level wages at $33,000.

In one semester, this online course is designed to introduce students to a variety of diagnostic and instructional tools used to evaluate the performance of technical support technologies. The course topics include technical support fundamentals, troubleshooting, customer service, computer networking, operating systems, system administration, IT infrastructure and IT security.

A job in IT has the potential opportunity to be in-person or remote help desk work in a small business or at a national corporation.Students can earn a CompTIA and TestOut PC Pro Certified credential when they complete the online course and pass the certification exams.Through a mix of video lectures, quizzes, and hands-on labs and widgets, the program will introduce you to troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration and security.

There are scholarships available for those who qualify. Some previous computer experience is preferred as well as computer and internet access for the online class.
