Bladen Community College Signs Agreement with Institute in Panama
DUBLIN – Bladen Community College has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Instituto Politécnico Bilingüe Gosén. “This agreement will facilitate communications and educational opportunities between BCC and Panamanian students,” remarked BCC president William Findt.
The agreement is a result of collaboration with the Institute administrators Victor Cedeño Caballero and Joel Andrade De León, during their recent visit to the Dublin campus.
Mr. Andrade and Mr. Cedeño are studying the educational structure of Bladen Community College and have plans to model the Instituto Politécnico Bilingüe Gosén in a similar format. BCC’s successful college readiness program and the subsequent workforce skills programs are of particular interest to the Panama City based institution.
According to BCC director, Silas Acosta, “The Institute wants to know how we help students who have dropped out of high school to regain their student status and become credentialed in skilled areas of the workforce. They are asking questions such as, how do we provide financial assistance for students who cannot pay for their education, and how do we assess our potential students for placement into our programs.”
Vice President for Workforce and Continuing Education Sondra Guyton shared, “This is exciting news for BCC. We have a visiting student on campus right now who brings to us extraordinary cultural diversity and a genuine desire to learn about our educational system. There are limitless opportunities for our students to electronically interact with students at the Instituto Politécnico Bilingüe Gosén. It is an enriching experience for our students, and an excellent example of the progressive educational focus of BCC in the 21st century.”
