Bladen Community College supports local businesses in many ways but two good examples are its Continuing Education classes and its Small Business Center services.
Bladen Community College Continuing Education department’s goal is to assist students in assessing interests, personality traits, and abilities in setting career and educational goals, and in creating a pathway that will lead to economic, social, and educational success. There is a wide variety of classes offered by the Continuing Education Department for the spring semester that starts January 9, 2020. Working Smart and Client Service Training are both new. Working Smart consists of soft skills that focus on leadership, teamwork, communication, and work ethic. Working Smart is an employer driven program that equips job seekers with important those soft skills needed in today’s workplace and life.
Client Service training is a course developed to prepare individuals to work in an entry-level position as a Client Service Associate. There are a number of client service centers within the region that regularly recruit individuals who are equipped with essential workplace readiness skills needed to thrive in this type work environment. Students will explore concepts of client service employment with an emphasis on professionalism, communication skills, computer basics, care center environment, best practices, employment techniques, and completing a job application or resume.

Another example of how Bladen Community College supports local businesses is the Bladen Community College Small Business Center. The mission of the Small Business Center at Bladen Community College is to increase the success and numbers of viable small businesses in Bladen County by providing high quality, readily accessible assistance to entrepreneurs, prospective and existing small business owners leading to job creation and retention.
Bladen Community College Small Business Center is part of the NC Community College’s Small Business Center Network. The NC Community College’s Small Business Center Network facilitates an economic impact in 90 percent of all NC counties each year and ranks number one in the U.S. for total business seminars and participants. In addition, the network helps start an average of over 700 businesses every year and works to create and retain 3,800 jobs annually for North Carolina.
Bladen Community College Small Business Center offers seminars, workshops and certificates targeted to the needs of small business owners and start-ups at no cost to participants. Our programs are funded by a grant from the NC Legislature. In addition, the Center offers free one-on-one counseling and assistance or referrals to other appropriate agencies for further counseling. The Center shares access to resources to help get a small business started or to assist in growing a business. Professional networking with local chambers of commerce, economic developers, volunteer consultants, and other business groups and professionals enables the SBC to help small businesses get started or existing businesses to stay ahead.
