The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and heard a request from the East Bladen FFA for a letter of support for a grant application.
Anna Smith and Elizabeth Barnes addressed the board on behalf of the FFA. They were accompanied by their  teacher Earl Miller.
Miller told the board that agriculture has advanced beyond livestock and plowing fields. He said now agricultural related jobs include Scientists, lab technicians, lawyers and such.
Both Anna Smith and Elizabeth Barnes told the board that the school does not currently have adequate facilities for what their FFA group is trying to accomplish. They have applied to the North Carolina Tobacco Trust for funding to build  lab and classroom facilities.
The group is proposing construction of a building measuring 50 feet by 60 feet. They told the board the new building will allow for more hands on learning and more course offerings. The group is looking at showing goats.
They told the board that the grant application requires a letter of support from the County Commissioners. The board approved the request.
