The Bladen County Board of Education has a scheduled meeting on the calendar for Monday, April 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Chairman Roger Carroll will call for approval to conduct the meeting virtually and in person.

The new Bladen County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jason Atkinson, is scheduled to take the Superintendent Oath with Bladen County Clerk of Superior Courts, Niki Dennis. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, effective July 1, 2020, Dr. Atkinson is licensed as follows – Music K-12 and Instructional Technology Specialist – Computers. The Bladen County Board of Education voted for Dr. Atkinson to take the role of the new Bladen County Schools Superintendent in March 2020 with a two-year contract.

Other items on the agenda for this Monday are Spotlights and Recognition, Citizen Participation, Elimination of Installment Pay, Summer Enrichment Pay, COVID-19 update, a State Budget Amendment of $316,397.03, a Federal Budget Amendment of $88,441.51, a Child Nutrition Procurement Plan with a purchase threshold of $90,000.00, an East Bladen High School Football Team online fundraiser, and a class size waiver.

There is a budget projection under action items on the agenda waiting for approval to submit to Bladen County Commissioners with a 7.5% salaries pay increase, a 1.5% increase in retirement rate, and a 1.5% increase in the hospitalization rate.

Also, action items include a Banking RFP, Summer School and Reading Camp pay, Approval of Architectural Services for Tar Heel School Construction, and changes to the May meeting date for the Bladen County Board of Education.

A closed session is also on the agenda for the purpose of discussing personnel, as per NCGS 143.318.11, (a) (1),to consult with an attorney, if needed, as per NCGS 143.318.11 (a) (3), and to discuss student reassignment/discipline, per the 1974 Family Rights and Privacy Act and to discuss the Carter lawsuit against Bladen County Schools.
